Lovett wins Quarter Finals
against Calhoun
with PKs 4-2!!
The Lovett Lions continue on with a
victory over Calhoun HS with PKs 4-2.
A goal by West
Barnwell put Lovett on top for the entire first half. After
Calhoun evened the score in the 2nd half, the L defense, and
goalie Jamie White staved off an impressive attack by #6 ranked Calhoun.
Thanks to perfectly placed PK kicks by David Paparelli, Boone
DuPree, Andrew Bleke and Jack Hall, combined with two great stops by Jamie,
Lovett moves on to the semi-finals.
Next game will be on TUES May 9th @6:00 pm against Pace AT LOVETT.

Lovett wins Round 2 against
Pike County High School, 3-2
The Varsity Boys gave us a thriller
Tuesday night in Zebulon, dominating the play as they clinched a spot in
the quarter finals, beating Pike
Co. High
School 3-2.
Despite Lovett’s controlling the ball from the onset, Pike Co.
managed two goals early on in the game.
Then, Jack Hall easily placed a shot on a PK, to end the half down
1. Boone DuPree evened the score
with one of his famous rocket shots, and, Eric Nam joined the stats list
with the winning goal. Way to go Lions!.

Lovett v Mt
Paran
4-1, 3/28/06
The Lions returned to
their winning ways with a good victory over a surprisingly strong Mt Paran side.
Jamie White was back between the posts for this game. The Lions got off to
a blistering start with 3 goals in 20 mins. Jack Hall opened the scoring by
hammering a ball into the upper 90 on an assist from Chris
Kennedy. Andrew Bleke then demonstrated again just how
good a finisher he is. His first goal was another 20 yard strike "low
at the far post" in off the post. His second goal was from a long
through ball, Andrew just took off, outran and outmuscled the defense
to calmly chip the goalkeeper for the Lions third. Mt Paran
came back strongly and put some pressure on the Lovett goal and was
rewarded when a cross from the right unfortunately hit James Gallagher
to bring the score to 3-1. The second half saw Mt Paran come on
strong and the momentum switched to Mt Paran. From a hard shot, the
ball struck David Paparelli on the arm as he was turned away
protecting his face, the crowd was shocked to see the referee give a
penalty kick for a handball. It looked like Mt Paran would get right back
into the game. Wrong!! Jamie White came up with a save and the score
remained 3-1. Mt Paran still pushed and Jamie
was called on to make 2 more great saves before Steven Robinson put
the game beyond doubt by scoring Lovett’s fourth. This was an
important Region 1 win for the Lions as we head for the State playoffs.

The Lions defended well
against strong opposition in the McIntosh tournament. All these sides are 4A with
Whitewater and McIntosh ranked 3 and 4 in 4A. Coming off a bad loss to Walker, the Lions
showed great resilience and regained most of their confidence. The
loss to McMinn was most surprising as the Lions dominated McMinn
for large parts of the game. All McMinn goals were quick
breakaways and the Lions were somewhat amazed at the final outcome. However
the final game against Whitewater was fairly even with Whitewater having
just a slight edge. Goals by Jack Hall and Andrew Bleke in the tournament
were well taken.

Walker
Gets Its Revenge 3/21/06
There goes the unbeaten record with loud bang. Walker had waited and schemed for a year
to get back at the Lions, who took the Region 1 Championship from under
their noses last year. They came out gunning for us and showed no mercy in
a 7-1 drubbing. The Lions looked out of sorts, with a number of players unable
to play in that game for various reasons. This forced a realignment of
players that weakened our midfield considerably. Walker's All American took full advantage
of the space he was afforded and scored 4 goals. One bright spot was
another terrific finish by Andrew Bleke from a pass by Jamie White, but
with time winding down and all Lions players getting a run out, Walker finished us off
with 3 more goals to bring the evening to a welcome finish. So we lost 7-1,
but it's just one game and the Lions have to pick themselves up, shake this
off and get back to winning ways with tough games coming up the next couple
of weeks.

Lovett v Landmark Christian,
8-0, 3/17/06
Lovett's game against Landmark Christian saw debuts
from J.B. Chun, Worth Macdonald, Trey Cornutt, Stuart Kenny and Stephen
Joy. With the completion of the
bball season, James Gallagher also rejoined the defense line-up, making a
strong back line with Captain David Paparelli and Junior Chris Kennedy.
The Lovett Lions proved much too strong for the opposition who
fought valiantly for the whole game but still lost 8-0 to the Lions. It was
15 minutes or so before the Lions scored the first goal, although they had
created quite a few chances in the first 10 minutes. Eventually a back heel from White to
Bleke who crossed the ball for the shot to Eddie Nam opened the Lion's
account for the night. Goals from Dupree and Bleke followed in the first
half. The crowd was waiting for Jamie White to score on his 18th birthday
and he soon found his range. He completed his Hat Trick by scoring 3 of the
next 4 goals, with Christian Baker scoring the fourth from a long way out.
The scoring was rounded out by yet another clinical finish from Bleke with
3 seconds on the clock. Lovett
has some tough opponents coming up in Walker, McIntosh, and Whitewater;
these games will really test the team this week.

Lovett V Whitefield, 2-1, 2/27/06
This one was a nail biter,
Jack Hall was still injured and other players were below their best. The
game saw debuts from Freshman Harrison Dykes and Sophomores
Jack Lally and Will Freihofer. Whitefield supporters were very vocal and
clearly raised the level of the Whitefield team play. After a fairly even
first 25 minutes, Lovett took the lead with a great diving header from
Jamie White from a free kick expertly taken by Boone Dupree. The Lions held
out for a 1-0 lead at the half. The second half saw Whitefield up their
tempo and the Lovett goal came under more pressure. Whitefield eventually
got the equalizer from a long throw. The game went back and forth until the
final 2 minutes. Overtime looked a certainty (*) when Christian Baker
brought the ball up the right touchline and struck a long ball into the
path of Andrew Bleke. Bleke streaked away and with the Whitefield defenders
closing fast, unleashed a world class strike low just inside the far post
to give Lovett the victory. It has to be said that this was not the Lions best
performance and they will have to step it up when they return from
Spring Break to face the likes of Walker, Pace, Marist and
Westminster, but for now that have a 100% record and a
perfect pre-spring break record. Time to rest up, get healthy and come back
focused on the 2006 State Cup.
(*Note: new regs
require that Area games can not end in a tie, so overtime would have
occurred if the score had been 1-1 after the first 80 minutes of play

Lovett V Grady, 1-0, 2/24/06
The Lovett Boys soccer
team took the field vs Grady HS for the first time in a while as favorites.
Grady won the game last year by 4 goals so Lovett was looking for revenge.
Grady had done their homework and Jamie White and Jack Hall were tightly
marked all game. The game was too close for comfort for the visiting
supporters with the only goal of the game coming from Eddie Nam who
finished a great chip from Jamie White after Jack Hall had let the ball run
through to the younger Nam.
Unfortunately Jack Hall took a knee in the back on this play and had to
miss the rest of the game. Jamie White also had a bad back ache that
restricted his mobility throughout the game. With these limitations it was
an uphill battle for the rest of the team to hold off a Grady team that
started to grow in confidence, also boosted by the extremely large home
crowd. The Lovett boys led determinedly by Boone Dupree, who ran his socks
off, held off the Grady assault and recorded a 1-0 victory. The defense held
tight again with some amazing saves, Drew Chambers kept a clean sheet and
Andrew Bleke stayed busy and aggressive all game. It is often said that
good sides find a way to win even when they perform below their best and
this was certainly one of those nights. However the 100% record is still
intact and the win streak continues.

Lovett V GAC, 4-1, 2/21/06
Do we
have something of a win streak developing here? The Lions took the field
against certainly the most talented opposition to date. GAC had a national
ODP player in their offense. Within 24 seconds the Lovett season shutout
record was broken and GAC took a 1-0 lead. Sam Arthur, the national player,
seized onto a loose pass, tore through the defense and hammered his shot
low into the far corner. Starting goalkeeper Drew Chambers had no chance.
The question in everyone's mind was did the Lions have the right stuff to
come back from this early upset? …..

Lovett v North
Atlanta, 2-0, 2/15/06
The
Lions continued their winning ways with a 2-0 defeat of AAAA North Atlanta HS. Fortunately the
weather was much improved and the venue was just a stone's throw from
Lovett. The North Atlanta team had some good talent particularly their
sweeper (No 8) but the Lions proved too strong in the midfield with goals
from Jack Hall in each half , the second being a penalty when Boone Dupree
was fouled in the penalty area. The defense holding firm, giving Jamie
White little to do, recorded their second shutout.

Lovett v Our Lady of Mercy,
7-0, 2/14/06
The
Lovett Lions Boys Varsity soccer team kicked off their 2006 - 1AA Regional
season with an away game against Our Lady of Mercy. Despite a valiant
effort by the home side the Lions proved to be too strong. After a hard
fought opening 20 minutes, Andrew Bleke scored the first goal of the
season.
Goals by Captain Dupree
and debut first strike by Freshman Eddie Nam followed to give the Lions a
3-0 half time lead. The second half started and Jack Hall netted another
goal to put the Lions up 4-0 , Jamie White came out of goal and Drew
Chambers made his varsity debut and made the only save of the game. Jamie
White made his debut on the field in a regional game and scored his first
goal. With a great headed goal from Jack Hall from a Dupree corner and
another Boone Dupree goal the Lions ran out well deserved 7-0 winners. The
defense of Paparelli, Kennedy and
Barnwell looked solid and kept a clean sheet. It was a good first outing
and the team played attractive soccer for long periods of the
